Meet the Student Delegate: Jacob Duncan of Cherokee High School!

Student Delegates to the School Board serve for one school year to give valued input and feedback to the School Board and Superintendent of Schools in our mission to become the highest performing school district in Georgia!  Over the coming months, we'll be introducing each Delegate to our community.   You can learn more about the Student Delegates and see all their names online here.

Jacob Duncan of Cherokee High School

Why did you choose to serve as a Student Delegate?
I chose to serve as a Student Delegate to meet and learn more about all the wonderful individuals who keep the district running smoothly daily. There is so much that goes on beyond the classroom walls, and with that comes so many different departments and individuals to oversee all that gets done. I wanted to form meaningful relationships with those operating the district to gain meaningful insight as well as further support my fellow peers.

What do you hope to learn from this experience?
From this experience, I hope to learn about all the different processes that take place in the district. It is common for many to potentially be confused or angry about a decision, as they do not know all that went into the ruling. I wanted to learn why and how decisions are made and through that learn what to consider when looking to make an impact.

What do you think makes a good leader?
I believe a good leader is one who sticks up for those who count on them. Good leaders are not concerned with conformity or what is best for themselves. They are solely devoted to the benefit and wellbeing of those they represent, leading with honesty and compassion.

What do you like most about your school?
I love the diverse community that has prospered at Cherokee High School. There are so many unique groups of individuals who, united under the "C," exemplify Cherokee as a place of unity and celebration. No matter the differences, there is always support to be found in the classroom, on the field, or out in the community.
