Meet a 2024-25 Student Delegate: Will Rusbridge of Cherokee High School!

Every school year, each CCSD high school selects one Student Delegate to the School Board to represent the student voice. One Delegate is named the Student Advisor and sits with the Board at its meetings. We’ll introduce you to them all this year! #CCSDElevateTheExcellence

Why did you want to serve as a student delegate to the School Board?

I wanted to serve so that I could help represent my peers and promote an educational environment catered to the students at my school. Serving in this position is an incredible opportunity to gain new experiences that I believe will greatly benefit me in my future as I continue to promote the coherence of education between teachers and students. I was also aware that this opportunity would lead me to meet new people who share the same ambition and aspiration for the future of education in Cherokee County.

What do you hope to learn from the experience?

I am hoping to gain a greater understanding of the operations of the School Board, as well as the education system as a whole. The experience has thus far been very eye-opening and I have already learned a lot from my time in the position. I believe that education in these subjects will continue to grow, allowing me to improve and become a better representative for my school and peers.

What do you feel makes a good leader?

There are a vast number of qualities that develop a strong leader. However, I would place confidence, optimism, and initiative among the most important of leadership qualities. It is crucial that a leader be confident in their decisions and actions and have the drive to take action when it is needed. Doing all of this with a positive outlook, no matter what obstacles may present themselves, is what builds a good leader in my eyes.

What do you like most about your school?

Cherokee is an incredible institution of education. I’m very glad to be a Cherokee Warrior as I feel that all of my goals as a student are supported in a variety of ways by the students and staff who surround me every day. I have been provided expansive opportunities to enhance my education in the presence of devoted teachers, as well as remain engaged through many extracurriculars that allow me to grow and learn. There is no doubt in saying that Cherokee High School has helped me become the student that I am today and provided me the motivation to continue my educational journey.
