CCSD Students Selected for 2024 Governor's Honors

Ten Cherokee County School District high school students have been selected for the prestigious Georgia Governor’s Honors Program! 

The statewide summer honors program for Georgia’s top rising high school juniors and seniors offers four weeks of college-level instruction at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.  

Students are selected based on overall excellence in academics, extra-curricular activities and leadership, as well as exceptional skills and talents in a specific area of study.  Those tapped for the competitive program receive academic instruction in a specific area of study, as well as cultural and social enrichment focused on helping them become the “next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators and leaders.”  

The CCSD students selected for this summer’s program are: of Cherokee HS, sophomore Grace Dai, Visual Arts and junior Samantha Geer, Music - Voice: Soprano; of Creekview HS, junior Cade Smith, Engineering Design and junior Sofie Wang, Theatre Performance; of Etowah HS, junior Alexis Cua, Engineering Design; of Sequoyah HS, junior Sofia Castillo, Music - Voice: Alto, sophomore Maddie DeLoach, Communicative Arts and Ella Miffitt, Communicative Arts; of Woodstock HS, junior Katie Bean, Visual Arts and junior Caroline Toole, Communicative Arts.

“Congratulations to our Governor’s Honors finalists – this is an incredible honor that you have earned through dedication to your studies and talents,” Superintendent of Schools Mary Elizabeth Davis said.  “This is a prestigious event with limited enrollment, and our students’ success across a variety of disciplines also is a testament to the quality of our teachers.  Best wishes to our honorees – I know you will represent your school and our community with excellence!”  

The Cherokee County School Board and Dr. Davis will recognize the students at an upcoming school board meeting.
