CCSD Students Participating in Statewide Leadership Program

Two Cherokee County School District students are participating in a statewide leadership program this summer!

Rising seniors Jack McGuigan of Cherokee High School and Cullen Stacy of River Ridge High School were selected for the week-long American Legion Department of Georgia’s Boys State program at Valdosta State University.  Congratulations to our students, thank you to our local American Legion posts for their partnership, and thank you to our School Board for supporting community partnerships!

Through Boys State, student leaders create a mythical 51st state and establish its government, including running campaigns to elect delegates to serve in the government.  Participants learn about the U.S. legislative and judicial systems, parliamentary procedure and Georgia political history, and strengthen their leadership skills and sense of the importance of civic responsibility.

Jack’s participation is sponsored by Legion Post 45 of Canton, and Cullen’s participation is sponsored by Legion Post 316 of Woodstock.

A Cherokee HS JROTC cadet who plans to serve in the U.S. Air Force, Jack last year earned the Don Stevens Memorial Scholarship for Private Pilot Ground School.  Cullen, who plans to pursue a law degree, last year was an inaugural member of the Woodstock’s Mayor Youth Leadership Academy in partnership with the University of Georgia’s J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership.
