CCSD Student Earns National Scholarship for Future Educators

A Cherokee County School District Class of 2026 graduate has earned a national competitive scholarship for future educators!

Anna Weitzenkorn, who graduated this spring from Cherokee High School, is a recipient of the Vicki Soto Scholarship, receiving $12,000 toward college tuition and academic fees.  Anna plans to attend Samford University in Birmingham to study education as she pursues a career as a Special Education teacher.  Our School Board is laser focused on ensuring our students are learning more, growing more, and achieving more in our classrooms than they could anywhere else!

The scholarship honors the memory of the beloved teacher killed at Sandy Hook Elementary.  Five students are awarded the annual scholarship, with only two selected each year from states other than Connecticut.  Recipients, who must plan to pursue a career as an educator, are selected based on academic excellence, leadership, a deep passion for education, a submitted essay, and a letter of recommendation.  Anna’s letter was provided by Anna Sloan, an English teacher at Cherokee HS.
