New School Board Member Sworn Into Office
The Cherokee County School District this evening celebrated the swearing in of the Cherokee County School Board new District 3 member.
Chance Beam of Woodstock was appointed by the board last month to fill the District 3 post vacancy for the remainder of the term, which ends Dec. 31, 2026. The vacancy was created by the recent resignation of longtime board member John Harmon upon his move outside the post.
Mr. Beam took the oath of office, administered by Cherokee County Probate Court Judge Keith Wood, during a special ceremony in the school board auditorium.
The ceremony and reception that followed were attended by family, friends, fellow board members, other local elected officials, longtime school district business and community partners, other special guests, and Superintendent of Schools Mary Elizabeth Davis and her senior staff. Thank you to the Cherokee County Educational Foundation for sponsoring the reception.
Mr. Beam was invited to make remarks as part of the ceremony.
“I believe that Cherokee County is a special place. We moved here because of the school system and our belief in the school system,” he said. “I’m excited about the opportunity … we can do extraordinary things in Cherokee County.”
A local business owner, Mr. Beam and his wife, Christine, have two daughters who attend River Ridge High School.
He immediately began his service following the ceremony by attending the evening’s whole board training session. These regularly held training sessions are designed to strengthen the board’s governance work, as a high-performing school district begins with a high-performing governance team.
