Course Change Waiver
Cherokee’s course recommendation process incorporates an analysis of student grades, academic rigor, standardized test scores, and teacher recommendations. Each individual student’s data is then used in conjunction with subject specific performance rubrics to determine course level placement. We recognize that course choice impacts class rank, grade point average and student success.
Parents and students requesting to waive the Cherokee recommended placement level and enter into alternate courses or Honors/AP courses are advised that these courses:
- move at an accelerated pace
- require more preparation, study time, homework, and independent (outside of class) work
- have a more rigorous and in-depth curriculum, including critical thinking skills and analysis
- require consistent attendance
It is important to note, that for some students, increasing course rigor may result in earning a lower grade than they are accustomed to in the subject area if their work ethic, study skills, and test preparation do not adapt to the course’s rigor. In addition, per CCSD Policy, student schedule changes can only happen within the first 10 days of the semester. As a result, during the 2026-2027 school year students will remain in the course for the entire semester. Finally, because of nuances of scheduling and academic successions, some changes may not be possible.
This form will be available January 14, 2026 -February 13, 2026. While it is available, we highly recommend taking the courses recommended for you by your teachers and school counselor. Should you feel you still need to use this Course Waiver Form, please fill out the form below. Remember that these are requests and are not guaranteed and that, if granted, these requests are considered final course selections and cannot be changed after February 13, 2026 @ 4pm.
When should you use the waiver?

If you would like to change a course that a teacher and/or school counselor has recommended you for (waive up, waive down, or waive out)
